Who we are

The Student of the Game newsletter (“SOTG”) is published by Nathan Bowen, an individual based in Wales, UK.

What we collect

When you subscribe we collect your email address. Optionally, your first name if you give it. That’s it.

Why we collect it

To send you the weekly newsletter. Nothing else.

Where it’s stored

Subscriber data is held by Kit (formerly ConvertKit), a US-based email service. Kit is GDPR-compliant and uses Standard Contractual Clauses for international transfers.

How long we keep it

We hold your data for as long as you remain subscribed. When you unsubscribe, your active subscriber record is removed. Kit retains a suppression record (your email address only) to prevent accidentally re-adding you. We don’t control that retention period — it’s a Kit policy.

Who we share it with

Nobody. Your email is never sold, rented, or shared with any third party. We do not run advertising inside the newsletter.

Cookies and tracking

The website uses Vercel Analytics, which records anonymous usage data (page views, country, device type). It does not use cookies and does not identify individuals.

The newsletter uses Kit’s default open tracking — a single-pixel image included in each email. This records that an email was opened but does not identify your device. You can disable image loading in your email client to opt out.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can:

• Request a copy of the data we hold on you (right of access)
• Ask us to delete it (right to erasure)
• Ask us to export it in a portable format (right to data portability)
• Unsubscribe at any time (one click in any email’s footer)

You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we’ll update the date above. Material changes will be communicated by email.
